Developmental Edit

My developmental editing service will address your manuscript’s pacing, character arcs, premise fulfillment, and other structural needs. I am intentional in maintaining and strengthening your individual voice and style - not mine! - throughout the story.

This service is focused on the story as a coherent whole and thus not on grammar/spelling or sentence-level editing.

My base rate is $0.02 per word with some variables, such as discounts for a manuscript of a higher word count.

My combined line/copy editing service consists of a thorough, line-by-line overhaul of your manuscript’s grammar, spelling, and sentence structure.

I do not recommend purchasing this service from myself or another editor until you are nearing the end of your revision process, or you will need a second line/copy edit in your final steps before publication. I don’t want you finding yourself needing to pay twice!

Beta Reading

My beta reading service is essentially a less intensive hybrid of my other two editing services, dependent on where you are in your revision process. If you do not already have a list of developmental/etc. questions prepared for myself and other beta readers, I will assist in creating one and provide thorough answers as I read through your manuscript. If desired I will include some recommended solutions for problem areas as I notice them in my read through.

In this instance my rates are based more on my preset estimations of an hourly rate, rather than by individual word, and will look something like:

10,000 words = $30

25,000 words = $60

50,000 words = $90

100,000 words = $120

I calculate my base rates via:

  • Referring to averages published by the EFA (The Editorial Freelancers Association)

  • Making considerations of my current portfolio

  • My estimation of the time the work will require of me

I understand this is a significant investment to be making into yourself and your creative works! I am willing to work with authors on creating payment plans as needed to make this service more accessible.
